- Resolution on Fuel Oil Price Countermeasures
- We, member organizations who participated in the Annual General Meeting of the International Cooperative Fisheries Organization of the International Cooperative Alliance, held on 16 October, 2007 at Raffles City Convention Centre, Singapore,
- Recognizing that the continuing high fuel oil prices have been seriously affecting management of fisheries and aquaculture of our members,
- Recognizing that unless some strong fisheries business support measures are provided by the government, fishers will have to retire from their business,
- Resolved as follows:
- 4. that the government of ICFO member organizations should take appropriate fisheries and aquaculture management support
- measures to help fisheries cooperatives and their member fishers to overcome management difficulties caused by high fuel oil prices;
- 5. that in countries where such schemes and measures have already been put in place, ICFO members should request each of
- their governments to strengthen existing measures; and
- 6. that ICFO members make efforts to promote energy-saving type of fisheries coupled with promotion of the code of conduct
- for responsible fisheries and aquaculture.
