- ICFO Resolution Calling for Environmental Protection in Cartagena, Colombia in 2005
- ICFO Resolution Calling for Environmental Protection
- We participants in the ICFO Plenary Meeting held at Hilton Cartagena, Colombia, on 20 September, 2005,
- Recalling that fisheries and aquaculture suffered unprecedented damages last year in some countries, including Hungary, caused by the meteorological anomalies brought about by global warming such as heavy rain, strong wind and waves etc,
- Recalling that such damages may have been minimized if appropriate precautionary preventive measures have been in place such as dependable sewage facilities, wind-protecting tree zones, reservoirs and breakwater facilities etc.,
- Recognizing that there is necessity that appropriate supportive measures be strengthened in each country to minimize such natural disasters, particularly in fisheries and aquaculture sectors, which are weaker against such natural phenomena compared to other sectors due to lack of required facilities,
- Recognizing that environmental pollutions regardless of whether they are of air, land and water heavily affect fisheries and aquaculture, particularly when at the time of such natural disasters,
- Further recognizing that the fisheries and aquaculture sectors have several associations, which are able to give advice to government authorities etc with the aim to solve or minimize these problems, including their opinions in strategy and formulating the plans,
- Resolved as follows:
- 1. that each government should allocate appropriate level of budget for ensuring appropriate infrastructure development for natural
- disaster prevention and environmental protection
- 2. that in order to ensure satisfactory countermeasures, the government should mobilize every possible resources possible to
- minimize natural disasters
- 3. that environmental protection awareness building efforts should be further strengthened in cooperative sectors
- Signed on this 20th day of September, 2005
