- Resolution on Trade Rules of Fish and Fishery Products
- We participants in the ICFO plenary meeting held on 14 October, 2001 in Seoul, Republic of Korea,
- Recognizing the important roles and functions we have as national level fisheries cooperative organizations for safeguarding the interest of our respective member organizations as well as their member fishers,
- Calling for ensuring sustainable utilization of fisheries resources as well as fair and equitable trade by establishing equitable trade rules of fish and fishery products at WTO,
- Calling for ensuring sustainable utilization of fisheries resources as well as fair and equitable trade by establishing equitable trade rules of fish and fishery products at WTO,
- 1. To establish such trade rules that would contribute to sustainable utilization of fisheries
- resources, while controlling fisheries activities that neglect stock levels and do not comply with conservation and management rules;
- 2. To establish such trade rules in which considerations are given to ensuring conservation and management of resources, stable
- supply of safe fish and fishery products, as well as multiple roles and functions of fishery and fishing communities;
- 3. To establish effective tariff measures by duly giving considerations to ensuring fishers¡¯ right for livelihood; and
- 4. To leave considerations on fishery subsidies to FAO and other agencies who have in-depth knowledge on fisheries.
