• Resolution in Geneva, Switzerland in 1997
  • RESOLUTION
  • We representatives of ICFO member organizations who gathered in Geneva on 17 September, 1997 on the occasion of the plenary meeting of ICFO agreed on the importance of fisheries cooperatives¡¯ role for food security, environmental conservation and other issues, and resolve herewith as follows:
  • 1. that ICFO member organizations should make their utmost efforts to promote cooperative movement for environmental
  • conservation and rational use of fisheries resources through appropriate management measures in compliance with domestic as well as international rules and regulations;
  • 2. that such efforts should contribute to food security;
  • 3. that ICFO member organizations should promote international trade of fish and fishery products, but in doing so, consideration
  • must be given to balancing of mutual interest of fishers in both fish exporting and importing countries. Extremities that may cause dislocation of producers¡¯ economy must be avoided; and
  • 4. that in view of the fact that fish and fishery products which are not properly labeled in the market as regards product of origin work
  • against the interest of not only producers and importers but also of consumers, ICFO member organizations should make efforts to work for realizing labeling of certificate of product origin in each of the members¡¯ countries.
