• 2010 International Symposium in Seoul, Korea, in 2010
  • ICFO and NFFC jointly hosted an International Symposium on fisheries and fisheries cooperatives on 16 June, 2010.
  • The symposium was held at Lotte Hotel in Seoul Korea with prominent figures in fisheries and cooperatives around the world; America, Japan, Chnia, Indonesia, Iceland, India, England and Canada. Its title was ¡°A New Decade! The Role of Cooperatives for the Sustainable Development of Fisheries¡±.
  • About 320 Korean participants and 14 foreign delegates attended the symposium ; Vice-Minister of Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mr. Ikuhiro HATTORI, the president of Zengyoren, Mr. Naim ASARI, Mr. Roger SPEAR, a keynote speaker from England, and the persons concerned.
  • ICFO hosted the symposium to present an opportunity to seek ways to deal with obstacles in fisheries in the coming decade with the experts including cooperators and to strengthen the roles of fisheries cooperatives. Pending issues in the fisheries such as green growth were also discussed by examining the cases of Korea and Japan.
  • The symposium started with a keynote speech of Mr. Roger SPEAR. In the morning session, presentations related to the Roles of Fishing Communities for Fisheries Management were made. In the afternoon session, representatives of ICFO members presented ¡°the Accomplishments and Future Tasks of Fisheries Cooperatives. And the panel discussion was followed.
  • The symposium carried an important meaning of examining accomplishments of fisheries cooperatives and finding the direction for sustainable development of fisheries in the future.
  • After the event, foreign participants attended a Jeju study trip. They visited a halibut farm and tuna farm on land. The tuna farm on land is the only facility on land in the world.
  • Lastly during the symposium, the representatives of members of ICFO and symposium speakers adopted a ¡°Seoul Declaration¡± to show their will for the sustainable development through cooperatives.
